The PEDro Partnership’s commitment to your privacy

Your privacy is very important to the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) Partnership. As part of the normal operation of the PEDro and DiTA web-sites, we may collect certain information from you. This Privacy Policy details what information the PEDro Partnership collects, how it uses that information, and what your rights are regarding any information that you supply to it. The PEDro Partnership is subject to the requirements of applicable Australian law and strives to meet the requirements of the Australian Privacy Principles.

Your information and your right to privacy

You can elect to provide as much or as little information as you choose, although the PEDro Partnership requires a minimum set of information to provide access to parts of the PEDro and DiTA web-sites and services. What you provide is your choice.

Under no circumstances will the PEDro Partnership sell, trade or rent any personal information that you supply to it to any third party (within Australia or outside Australia).

The PEDro Partnership adheres to the principles set out in data protection legislation when handling personal data. These principles require personal data to be:

  • Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner
  • Collected only for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes
  • Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which it is processed
  • Not kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the data is processed
  • Processed in a manner that ensures its security using appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage
  • Not transferred to another country without appropriate safeguards being in place
  • Made available to data subjects and allow data subjects to exercise certain rights in relation to their personal data.

The PEDro Partnership is also responsible and accountable for ensuring that it can demonstrate compliance with the data protection principles listed above.

Collecting information

The PEDro Partnership may collect, use, and store different kinds of personal data about you. These data are used to provide you with access to PEDro and DiTA web-sites and services plus to monitor how these web-sites and services are delivered so that they can be enhanced and developed. The PEDro Partnership may collect, use and share aggregated data. Aggregated data derived from your personal data is not considered personal data under data protection law as it does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity. For example, the PEDro Partnership may aggregate data about your use of the PEDro or DiTA web-site to calculate the percentage of users accessing a specific page or the percentage of users from a particular country.

Depending on the section of the PEDro or DiTA web-sites that you use, the PEDro Partnership may hold the following information about you:

  • Name
  • Postal address
  • Email address
  • Country of residence
  • Preferred language
  • Transaction details associated with subscribing to online training programs.

(i) Information you provide to us

In the course of emailing your PEDro or DiTA search results to yourself, submitting an enquiry via the PEDro or DiTA web-sites, or leaving a comment on the PEDro or DiTA web-sites you may provide personal data. We will indicate prior to collection whether the provision of personal information is compulsory. This information is used to allow communication between PEDro or DiTA and users.

(ii) Information we collect from other sources

In the course of subscribing to and using the PEDro or DiTA newsletter, Evidence in your inbox feeds, and online training programs you may provide personal data to our online marketing platform (Mailchimp) or secure online payment platform (Stripe). Prior to collection, the provision of personal information that is compulsory will be indicated. Mailchimp collects usage data on behalf of the PEDro Partnership, including information for subscription management (name, email address, preferred language for newsletter (English or Portuguese)), location (country), the deliverability of emails, whether email messages are opened or forwarded, and whether subscribers click on links in the email messages. We use this usage data in aggregated form so that it cannot be used to identify any particular individual user. This aggregated information is used to monitor and improve the PEDro or DiTA newsletter and Evidence in your inbox services. The Mailchimp Privacy Policy is available at https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/. Stripe collects payment information on behalf of the PEDro Partnership, including payment method, purchase amount, date of purchase, name, postal address and email address. We use these data for receipt of payment only. The PEDro Partnership does not store credit card information. The Stripe Privacy Policy is available at https://stripe.com/au/privacy.

(iii) Information we collect automatically

The PEDro Partnership may directly collect analytics data, or use third-party analytics tools (Google Analytics), to help us measure traffic and usage of the PEDro and DiTA web-sites. This involves the use of common internet technologies, including cookies, web-server logs, and the collection of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. These tools collect information sent by your browser or mobile device, including the date and time of each visit, the pages you visit, the search terms you enter, the articles you select, and your location (country, state, city), browser type, and language preference. We collect and use this analytics information in aggregated form so that it cannot be used to identify any particular individual user. This aggregated information is used to monitor and improve the PEDro and DiTA web-sites. The Google Privacy Policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Access to personal information and privacy enquires

The PEDro Partnership is responsible for your personal data. You have the right to review and alter any personal information that the PEDro Partnership stores about you. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, including requests to access and correct your data, please contact the PEDro Manager at sph.pedro@sydney.edu.au.

You have the right to complain regarding any aspect of your privacy rights. If you have a complaint about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles, or a registered Australian Privacy Principles code (if any) that binds the PEDro Partnership, please contact the PEDro Manager at sph.pedro@sydney.edu.au.

Opting out

By using the PEDro or DiTA web-sites you acknowledge and accept that the PEDro Partnership will use your personal data as set out in this Privacy Policy. If you do not accept this Privacy Policy, please immediately stop using the PEDro or DiTA web-sites and services (search interface, newsletter, Evidence in your inbox, online training). You can opt-out from receiving newsletters and Evidence in your inbox feeds by unsubscribing to these services using the links in the footer of the email messages you receive. In these circumstances, you will not be able to email search results to yourself, receive the newsletter or Evidence in your inbox feeds, or undertake online training programs. On request, the PEDro Partnership will delete any personal information supplied.

Change of purpose

From time to time, the PEDro Partnership may decide to collect different kinds of information. When this occurs, we will update this privacy page.

Security

Your information is stored on a server located in a secure data housing facility. While, it is important to recognise that “perfect security” does not exist on the internet, the PEDro Partnership is committed to using industry standard mechanisms to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal information such as firewalls and Secure Socket Layers (SSL).
